Right now the streaming service Shudder has one of our favorite thematic trilogies of all time in its collection. Park Chan-Wook is a Korean filmmaker that everyone should be aware of, and the best introduction to him is this series.
"Sympathy for Mr. Vengance" is the first one that was made, but not necessarily the first one that needs to be watched. "OldBoy" happens to be one of the best films of all time, and the place we would suggest beginning this saga. "Lady Vengeance" displays the full evolution of Chan-Wook's style, and might be the most "fun" of the series".
The violence might be brutal, but the themes are poetic. Join Andrew for a discussion on the trilogy, and stick around for a discussion about the American remake from Spike Lee with Jess.
